Description of the direction
The profession of a paramedic can be performed in many areas of human activity related to rescue, medical disciplines, education and public health. The basic objectives of education in the field of Emergency Medical Services lead to the student's acquisition of knowledge, skills and social competences related to:
- providing health services, including emergency medical services independently or on the order of a doctor,
- securing people at the scene of the incident and taking actions to prevent an increase in the number of people in a state of sudden health threat,
- transporting people in a state of sudden health threat,
- providing mental support in a situation causing a sudden health threat,
- conducting health education and health promotion related to medical rescue.
The assumption of the study program is a practical approach to education, which is ensured by experienced teaching staff and prepared teaching infrastructure (studios, laboratories). The implementation of learning outcomes during the education cycle prepares the graduate to directly perform professional tasks, in accordance with applicable legal regulations for studies with a practical profile. Students are directly involved in performing specific practical activities as much as possible. Acquiring practical skills is preceded by developing them in simulated conditions.
What career prospects?
A graduate of emergency medical services will obtain a bachelor's degree. The obtained diploma of completion of studies entitles him to take up work, among others: in emergency stations, outpatient clinics, hospital emergency rooms, rescue units, e.g. fire brigade, police, army, emergency health care units. In addition, the graduate is prepared to work as a medical coordinator for securing mass events and as a first aid instructor in training centers. The aim of education is also to prepare the graduate to lead and manage paramedics and medical dispatchers, as well as to employ or serve in administrative positions in which activities related to the preparation, organization or supervision of the provision of health services in the field of medical rescue are performed.
A paramedic is obliged to improve professional qualifications in various forms of education (courses, conferences, training). The graduate may apply for admission to second-cycle studies in fields of study related to health sciences.
